A great candle experience begins with proper candle care and maintenance. Here are some important burning tips for enjoying your Little Black Duck candle:
1. Preventing memory rings.
Believe it or not, candles have a memory and the very first time you burn your new candle is the most important. Ensure you burn your candle long enough to completely melt the entire top surface of your candle. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the container, it will create a “memory ring,”. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle. And no one wants that!
2. Trim your wick.
Before lighting, always trim the wick to 6mm and remove any wick debris as this encourages an even burn.
3. Be safe.
Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface, keep it out of drafts and NEVER leave it unattended while lit. Always burn candles well away from other heat sources, and anything flammable. Make sure burning candles are out of reach of children and pets.
4. Goodbye is the hardest word.
KNOW WHEN TO SAY GOODBYE. When only 1/2" of wax remains, it's time to let your candle go. Discontinue use of a candle when ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface or container itself. The glass can get hot on the bottom as the flame nears the base of the jar and most of the wax has been consumed. By following this instruction, the glass will not get too hot.
5. Know your limit.
Candles should not be burned for more than four hours at a time. It is recommended that after burning for four hours, candles be extinguished, allowed to cool for two hours, and trimmed before relighting.
1. What are your candles made from?
Soy wax baby! All natural, all plant-based, safe for your home AND your pets!
Plus, a little of that sweet smelling fragrance oil! All fragrance oils used in LBD candles are phthalate-free, manufactured in Australia and are NOT tested on animals.
And to top it off, a lead-free wick to ensure a smooth, even burn!
2. Why does my candle look funny on the top?
Sometimes, soy wax likes to stand-out from the crowd and so it will make the top of your candles look powdery/discoloured/patchy. BUT, this is how you can tell your candle is 100% natural, soy wax! It is also how you can tell that your candle is not full of chemicals like some of the cheap alternatives- eeekkk!
It won't affect the scent or burn of your candle though, so dont you worry your pretty little head, burn those candles!
You may also notice that soy wax will make your candle look a little curdled after you have burnt it and it has reset (cooled). Again, this is just another characteristic of soy wax- unfortunately it seems we cant have environmentally friendly AND perfect looking candle tops- ohwell!
